Skills - Must Have:

This position is for an experienced Tax Manager.  In this role, you will be responsible for supervising a wide variety of accounting and tax engagements.  You will assume responsibility for complex projects and review moderately complex work prepared by others, providing review points.  You will also supervise, train and mentor Staff and less experienced Senior Accountants.  You will develop and maintain meaningful relationships with the Firm’s clients and participate in planning activities. You will actively work to execute the firm’s client retention strategies, ensuring that clients are highly satisfied, and identifying opportunities for expanding services.
Location
We are NOT considering remote candidates for this position.  We are only considering local candidates who will work out of our Novato, CA office at least part of the time. We are not providing relocation assistance at this time.
Compensation
This position has a base salary in the 125K - $135K range annually.
In addition, we offer two pools of potential additional compensation that can be earned for achieving annual charged hour goals (FIP Program) and performance development goals (PMP Program).  The FIP program pool range is between $10,000 and $13,000 annually and the PMP Pool range is between $8,000 and $10,000.
These pools would be prorated the first year.
Education, Licensing and Experience
  • Candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree with a major or concentration in accounting, tax, or a related field. 
  • Candidate must hold a valid and current CPA license.  An EA license is not an acceptable alternative.
  • Candidate must have a minimum of 5+ years of progressively responsible experience with a public accounting firm.
  • Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer. We are not currently considering candidates who require Visa sponsorship.
  • Applicant will be required to submit to a criminal background check upon receipt of a conditional offer.  Consideration of qualified candidates with arrest and conviction records will be in a manner consistent with the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act.

Requirements

  • Strong general accounting knowledge with significant experience doing trial balance work and complex journal entries.
  • Experience in preparing a wide variety of complex tax returns, and significant experience reviewing the work of others.
  • Experience with tax engagements for both individual and closely-held businesses.
  • Proficiency with tax law and complex tax research using available resources and platforms.
  • Through understanding of GAAP, generally accepted auditing standards and common audit procedures and techniques.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of the Firm’s standard software, including Lacerte and/or ProSystems FX, and Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, assignments and deadlines, and to delegate appropriately and effectively.
  • Experience in supervising and developing others.
  • Strong client service experience, and the ability to develop and maintain client relationships.

  • Prepare a wide variety of complex corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary and other tax returns with minimal supervision.
·         Review moderately complex returns prepared by others and provide review points.
·         Coach other staff based on review points noticed.
·         Work to identify and communicate issues and tax opportunities.
·         Work with partners and managers for issuance of client deliverables.

·         Actively participate in developing others and participate in the Firm’s Mentorship Program.
